Protesting SOPA ~ January 18th Internet BlackoutDo you like DeviantART? How about YouTube, Facebook, Tumblr, and much more?
Then SOPA and PIPA have the power to effect you drastically. These bills will take away your freedom to use the internet and go to the websites you love.
As a protest of #SOPA and #PIPA (The Stop Online Piracy Act and Protect IP Act) two pieces of legislation that are up for debate once again on January 18, 2012, I will not be online.
This applies to everyone! Share this message as much as you can and don't allow your freedoms to be stolen away.
These bills are not dead. Even gigantic websites like Wikipedia and Tumblr are taking part. However, this doesn't mean that you shouldn't take part; this movement needs you.

:wave: Hello everyone.  I have a challenge for you brilliant writers. Many might not know but I am a member of the Black Fedora Pirates and each week the Capetian does a Theme for his poetry. Well the next theme is called Real Week, where you would write about "problems out of the social norm" (The Captains exact words), which means things like Depression, Bullying, possibly Drug Dependency, and Poverty. We have three themes for this contest. I personally like options when writing, but I like simplicity in contests, so I thought I would fulfill both with this multi-themed contest.

Just as my previous contest, this seeks to award those who have improved during their time on dA compared to others in the same theme.
Guidelines and Rules
- You can submit up to two entries
- You can enter in more than one theme, but only win once
- The piece must be at least one year old and no more than five years old
- Your piece can be 6 to 2,000 words
- It does not have to be fiction. If you want me to look at your improvement in writing scientific essays or the like you've posted on dA I can do that.

This is a very beautiful and striking piece of prose. The author did an excellent job of expressing the narrator's deepest feelings and worries.

This poem is very elegantly written with a lot of thoughtfulness in each stanza. It has a smooth flow to it, much like the rain falling.

Warning: though I have been editing this thing a million times over the past month and a half, I'm sure I could miss something, a simple spelling error, or a homonym, so please remember this is not professional in any standard. I did not pay people to edit this for me. A friend and myself were the ones to do it. And sorry, we are human, so we're not perfect.
Another warning: a couple of your characters played a bigger role than I planned. So some characters show up more than others. But I made sure each and every character showed up multiple times, and had some speaking parts.

Well, this video is a recording of Marshall Soulful Jones performing his poem Touchscreen at the Boston Poetry Slam. This is amazing. Seriously. The way he says it, the actions - the robotic-like movements as he performs it are just amazing. This guy is amazing at reciting and writing and performing poetry. This is amazing.

But, please, DO NOT read them while listening to him recite the poem. You know, with the whole two tabs open thing. Because it will not have the same effect. This is not just a poetry recital, it is a performance. Now, you may think I am overreacting. But I am a writer. I love
New Front Page System...I'm sure a lot you have noticed the "glitch" that scrambled all the popular art off the popular page here on Deviantart.  HOWEVER, what a lot of deviants have failed to realize is the fact that it IS NOT a glitch, but a whole new system on Deviantart that is supposedly been made to help support "under-appreciated and more unusual types of art". So, instead of getting Homestuck fan-art, :iconyuumei:'s art, :iconmoni158:'s art, or even :iconTomPreston:'s comics (as well as countless other great art from artists like :iconhumon: and :iconloish:), you end up getting weird vectors, fractals, and miscellaneous category stuff from artists you've rarely even heard mentioned.
An important note to bear in mind is the fact that it's not about the unfair spread of attention. The front page, popular section is supposed to be EXACTLY that. If you want to be popular, you should earn it like everyone else before you did. Gathering followers, favorites,views... it's hard work. Which is why th

I'm writing a short script for class that would fit this theme so well! Would a film-style script be accepted or would I have to rewrite it in prose form?

Oh dang I thought it was fight for freedom! =( Is it ok if my story is themed that way? Because It still has to do with freedom, it just doesn't have to do w/speech. But if I have to write another fic I will =)
